Malcolm
Johnson’s long standing
“Equipe”GTS
lap record at Donington
was finally improved upon by both Rod Begbie and double race winner Neil Howe at this
splendid VSCC spectacular. Sharing the paddock with an array of
splendid Vintage and even Edwardian race cars, again the
“Equipe”GTS
fielded the largest and capacity grid on two days of
some really excellent historic motor sport.

Neil
Howe did not have an easy task as Rod Begbie set the fastest race
lap of the weekend and was keen to see his own
TVR Grantura at the head of the field in race one,
they swapped the lead several times before the TR4 took a
dominant lead with Rod Begbie and Colin Pearcy’s MGB eventually
completing the podium places at the chequered flag.
Winning
Sunday’s race two was made easier as Rod Begbie’s TVR developed
a misfire and retired on lap 16 and third placed John Andon’s TR4
suffered to brake problems, leaving Neil Howe’s victorious TR4 in
a commanding lead at the end of a race which will be remembered by most
as a swarm of 9 MGBs driven by Alasdiar Bruce, Mark Way,
George Edney, Tim Patchett, Juergen Felske, Marc Yates, Graham Bates
and John Pearson raced nose to tail for most of the 30 minute race with Jerry
Stock winning this most excellent race within a race.

Brian
Arculus in his Triumph TR3a finished the race in second position
overall from Colin Pearcy.
Class
winners over the weekend included John Palmer in an Ex Works MG
Midget, Doug Martin in his Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider along with Mark
Ellis in his MGA Twin Cam.
