Regulation Changes for 2008

Listed below are the changes in “Equipe”GTS  regulations destined to come into force at the start of the 2008 calendar.

1/  All Sprites and Midgets must have all metal panelled bodies.

Original or good quality replica special bodied cars may use a glass fibre bonnet or aluminium panels if as per the original period fitment. All other cars must use factory steel front panel, front wings and bonnet.

2/ All MGBs must use factory hardtops. This regulation was introduced at the beginning of 2007 and drivers of cars with the lighter weight reproduction hardtops have all been warned throughout the year.  From the beginning of 2008, any MGB with a non-factory hardtop will likely find themselves as reserves on any entry list.

To help identify a genuine "Factory" Hardtop, you will see in this picture the genuine article has the perspex side windows surrounded by an aluminium frame. The rear window would originally have been glass and the hardtop would have originally had a cream coloured glass fibre moulded roof lining.

Reproduction "Factory Style" hardtops have side window surrounds as part of the hardtop moulding, perspex rear windows as standard fitment and either a spray-on of fabric roof ling.  These repro hardtops are debatably not FIA legal and not eligible in “Equipe”GTS

3/ To comply more with FIA Appendix K regulations, all MGBs must use original shaped front valances or exact replicas of either of the 1963-65 works race cars.

If we were to strictly comply to the FIA regulations, no additional holes should cut or drilled onto this front valance, however for “Equipe”GTS  regulations we will allow additional holes only to allow a passage of air to a repositioned oil cooler.  Any other additional holes including any brake ducting in the front valance must be completely blocked off either at the front or behind the valance.

To Clarify . . . . . . . .

Here is a period photograph of Christabel Charlisle with an ex-factory car. This picture was taken in early 1963 before the car being despatched to Sebring for the 12hour race.

It is widely believed that this apron would have been made of Aluminium.

An exact copy of this flush fitting and possibly very slightly modified apron is without doubt legal for period F cars in FIA Appendix K regulations and “Equipe”GTS

.

Another period ex-factory car with the "Sebring" front valance along with equally acceptable radiator grille air scoops.

.

.

Using a square and level, we can determine the depth and shape of the ex-factory car's aprons were much the same as any production car.

From the lower edge of the grille to the underside of the centre of the apron should be aprox 8.5 inches.

Please note in this picture the flush fitting "Sebring" style fitment.

A standard original valance guarantees a safe passage through any FIA eligibility check and obviously is therefore very acceptable in “Equipe”GTS

( except maybe this choice of colour ?)

.

The following modifications be allowed in “Equipe”GTS

-

-

-

Additional air holes in the valance will not offer any performance advantage, but may help engine cooling with a repositioned oil cooler.

-

Additionally, for “Equipe”GTS  - any further holes including any brake ducting in the front valance must be completely blocked off either at the front or behind the valance. The shape and dimensions of the actual front valance must remain unaltered.

However; with these brake ducts in FIA Appendix K events you are likely to run into trouble.

.

.

Deeper and squarer valances are likely to create improved airflow around and under the car.

In all “Equipe”GTS   from 2008 these will not be acceptable.

4/  Class 6 for Invitation cars of over 2700cc engine capacity is to be deleted.
